Leaving Lyca Mobile and transferring your number

There are basically just three steps to leaving Lyca Mobile and taking your number with you.

You’ll find the complete process below, but before you start, bear in mind that you shouldn’t manually cancel your Lyca Mobile plan. This will happen automatically when the process below is complete, and if you do it too soon then you could lose your number.

Step 1 - Request a Lyca Mobile PAC code

First of all you should get a PAC code from Lyca Mobile, which you can do just by sending a single text. That’s the method we recommend, and you’ll find that below. But you can also call Lyca Mobile to get it, details for which can also be found below.

  • Text to switch - Text the word ‘PAC’ to 65075
  • Phone - Call Lyca Mobile on 322 from your Lyca Mobile phone

This code will last for 30 days before it expires, so you should aim to use it in that time frame, but it’s fine if you don’t, you can just request a new code.

Step 2 - Order a new phone or SIM

The next step is to order a new phone or SIM Only plan from the network you’re joining. If you’ve already done that before getting a PAC code, that’s not a problem, as these first two steps can be done either way round.

But if you haven’t already ordered a new plan, then it’s worth taking a look at the phone deals and SIM Only deals on our site, as you can easily find the perfect option there, and sometimes you’ll find exclusive deals too.

Once you’ve found the ideal option and placed an order, simply wait for your order to arrive, then activate your new SIM card once it does. With that done, head to step three.

Step 3 - Give your Lyca Mobile PAC code to your new network

Finally, you need to give the PAC code you got from Lyca Mobile to the new network you’ve joined.

The exact process for that varies from network to network, but usually means just filling in an online form, and you’ll find details of how to find those for most networks in the chart below.

When you’ve filled in the form your transfer will usually be carried out 1-2 days later, depending on the day and time when the form was completed. Some give you the choice of a later date too, but that also depends on the network.

So simply wait for the transfer to take place, and know that once it does your Lyca Mobile plan will automatically be ended, so you don’t need to do anything else.

Step 2 - Order a new Lyca Mobile SIM

Now you should order a SIM card on a Lyca Mobile plan. If you did that before getting a PAC code though that’s okay, as these first two steps can be done either way round.

You can find all the options on our Lyca Mobile SIM deals page if you haven’t made up your mind yet.

Once you’ve placed an order, just wait for your new Lyca Mobile SIM card to arrive, then activate it, and then move on to step 3.

Step 3 - Give your PAC code to Lyca Mobile

The final step is to give your PAC code to Lyca Mobile. They’ll then do the job of transferring your number from your old network.

To give Lyca Mobile your PAC code, just fill out Lyca Mobile’s number transfer form. You’ll be able to pick the day when you’d like the number transfer to take place, so then you just need to sit back and wait.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you keep your number when moving between plans on Lyca Mobile?

Yes, and the process will be handled automatically.

What if I don’t want to keep my number?

If you don’t want to keep your number then you can simply tell your current network you’re leaving, without requesting or using a PAC code. You can alternatively request a STAC (Service Termination Authorisation Code) instead of a PAC, and give this to your new network. They’ll then close your old account but won’t port your number. The easiest way to get a STAC is to text ‘STAC’ to 75075 from your old number.

Will I be charged for a PAC code?

No, PAC codes are always completely free.

How long does it take for a number to transfer to a new SIM?

Generally the process takes between one and two working days, depending on the network you’re moving to and when you request the transfer.

Can I end a contract without a PAC code?

Yes, simply tell your network you want to cancel your contract, or request a STAC code by texting ‘STAC’ to 75075, and give that to your new network. Doing either of these will end your contract but won’t port your number – for that you need to use a PAC code.

Can I use a PAC to switch from one Lyca Mobile plan to another?

No, there’s no need to as PAC codes are only used when switching to another network.

Can you change or cancel a number transfer?

You’ll often be able to change or cancel a number transfer, but this depends on the network and whether the transfer has started or not. Get in touch with your network as soon as possible to find out.

What happens if my number didn’t transfer?

On rare occasions a number won’t successfully transfer, generally for one of the following reasons:

  • Your new SIM isn’t active: You need to have activated your new SIM card in order to transfer a number to it. So activate it if you haven’t already and request the transfer again.
  • You’re out of the UK: Generally number transfers will only complete if you’re in the UK on the day of the transfer. If you weren’t, then request the transfer again once you’re back.

If the above issues aren’t the problem then get in touch with your new network, as they should be able to assist you.
