What is Apple One?

Apple one

If you’re an Apple fan, an EE customer, or just a regular reader of smartphone and tech happenings, then you might have heard of Apple One.

Essentially, this is a subscription from Apple, but rather than just getting one service with your subscription you get several – in other words it’s all (or at least much) of Apple, in one.

Apple One is also now available as a perk on select EE plans – which is why EE customers might have heard of it. However, there are actually three different versions of Apple One, so below we’ll look at what you get with each of them, and how to actually get Apple One.

What Apple One subscriptions are available?

There are three different tiers of Apple One. At the bottom there’s Apple One Individual. This is the cheapest option, and the one that’s available on select EE plans.

Then there’s Apple One Family, which is similar but designed to be shared with other people, so the cost is higher.

Finally, at the top end there’s Apple One Premier, which can also be shared but comes with additional services too, and carries the highest price. Below we’ll look at these options in more detail.

Apple One Individual

Apple One Individual includes a subscription to Apple TV Plus (so you can watch the numerous Apple original movies and shows), Apple Music (which is a music streaming service like Spotify), and Apple Arcade (which houses numerous games you can play on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV).

It also includes 50GB of iCloud Plus storage, so you can keep your content backed up online.

As noted above, this tier of Apple One is available on EE – we’ll explain how you actually get it further down, under the ‘how do I get Apple One?’ heading.

If you don’t get it through EE then Apple One Individual will cost you £14.95 per month, but that’s actually a saving of £5.80 per month on what those services would cost you individually, so it’s a great price if you want them all.

Apple One Family

Apple One Family isn’t available through a mobile network – you have to get it through Apple. It comes with the same perks as Apple One Individual – so there’s Apple TV Plus, Apple Music, and Apple Arcade, but it ups the iCloud Plus storage to 200GB.

The main advantage this has over Apple One Individual though is that you can share it with up to five other people. So while it costs more at £19.95 per month, the actual cost per person can be a lot lower. Even at that full price though it’s £7.50 cheaper each month than these services would cost combined if you paid for them separately.

Apple One Premier

Apple One Premier also isn’t available through mobile networks. It’s similar to Apple One Family in what it includes – and in the ability to share it – but the iCloud Plus storage allowance here is a whopping 2TB, and you also get Apple Fitness Plus and Apple News Plus.

The former is a fitness service which includes a wide range of video workouts which can be tracked from your Apple Watch, plus audio-guided walking and running experiences. The latter houses hundreds of magazines and newspapers that you can access.

This subscription is the priciest of all at £29.95 per month, but it also comes with the biggest monthly saving – versus paying for these services separately – of £22 per month. It’s also a lot cheaper if you split it with other people.

How do I get Apple One?

If you’re an EE customer, then you can potentially get Apple One as part of your plan. The network includes it in Full Works for iPhone plans, which are its top plans for iPhones.

So take out one of those plans and you’ll get Apple One automatically – along with Roam Abroad, which lets you roam across much of the world at no extra cost.

If you don’t have or want one of those plans – or you want Apple One Family or Premier – then you’ll want to head direct to Apple.

More specifically, you sign up to it through an Apple device, though you need to make sure your device’s software is up to date first. On an iPhone or iPad, head to Settings > General > Software Update to do this, while on a Mac you’ll want to go to System Preferences > Software Update.

With that done, head to the Settings screen, tap your name, and then select the Subscriptions option. You can then select and sign up for the Apple One plan of your choice. Better yet, any of the included services that you haven’t already subscribed to will be free for the first month.
