EE’s 5G network has just taken another leap, as the company has announced that it’s brought 5G to 14 new locations – many of them major – and improved 5G coverage and performance in 14 more.
The 14 places that are getting EE 5G for the first time include Bradford, Kidderminster, Peterborough, Bedford, Luton, Southampton, Newport, Dewsbury, Sutton in Ashfield, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Hemel Hempstead, East Kilbride, Bridgend, and Carlisle.
So these include some major cities, some of which you might be surprised didn’t already have 5G from EE, but at least they do now. These additions also bring the total number of towns and cities with EE 5G coverage up to at least 207 – though the actual number is probably higher, as EE doesn’t keep a constantly updated total, or publicise all of its 5G switch-ons.
New and improved
But EE isn’t just focused on bringing 5G to new places, it’s also improving the service in places that already have it. On that front it’s now announced that 2100MHz 5G has been rolled out in London, Manchester, Liverpool, Bristol, Leeds, Cardiff, Belfast, Newport, Perth, Kilmarnock, Eastbourne, Scunthorpe, Chesterfield, and Wellingborough.
These places already had EE 5G from other spectrum bands, but the addition of 2100MHz spectrum – which has been switched on at sites that previously provided 3G coverage – will boost indoor 5G coverage and improve 5G capacity in busy areas.
This news comes hot on the heels of another big announcement from EE – namely that it has reworked all of its 5G phone and SIM Only plans, offering new perks and benefits with them, such as Apple One. You can read all about this in our EE 5G plans guide.
Of course, EE isn’t the only network that’s building a robust 5G service. Its rivals all are too, with Three seemingly offering 5G in even more places currently. But competition should drive them all to do better.
