Tesco Mobile is the latest in a short line of networks to roll out plans designed specifically for children. Called Safe Start SIMs, these are available on a 12-month contract with a choice of 2GB, 12GB, or 30GB of data.
They also come with unlimited minutes and texts, 5G, and inclusive EU roaming. But what makes them designed for kids is that they also include expert safety and setup support, and a choice of parental controls, such as the option to restrict content for under 12s and under 18s.

Additionally, they also come with scam and spam call protection, the option to set a safety buffer to avoid unexpected charges, and a 12-month subscription to Sway.ly, which is an app that can flag harmful social media content, to help keep your child safe online.
But beyond just flagging and blocking content, this app can also encourage conversations by providing tools to help parents and kids talk to each other.

Not the only option
Tesco Mobile runs on O2’s network, but if you want different coverage or a different selection of tools to help your child safely use a phone, then there are a couple of alternative options.
EE has launched a similar set of plans called Safer SIMs, and ParentShield is a network that’s been built from the ground up with child safety in mind. So you have a few options, and hopefully more networks will start launching these sorts of plans soon too.
