Starting this month (May 2020) Vodafone is set to bolster its selection of 5G phones, as it has signed an agreement with Oppo, which will see it start stocking a wide range of the company’s handsets from entry-level ones to top-tier flagships, including models with 5G.
The announcement specifically mentions the Oppo A series, the Oppo Reno series and the Oppo Find X series, including the Oppo Find X2 (below), which is a brand new 5G flagship, with a top-end Snapdragon 865 chipset, 8GB or 12GB of RAM, a triple-lens camera, a 4,200mAh battery, and a 6.7-inch 1440 x 3168 screen with a 120Hz refresh rate.
We might even see the Oppo Find X2 Pro, which is a slight improvement, with for example more storage, better water resistance, and a bigger battery, making it a real rival to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 5G.
The Reno range also impresses, and includes 5G models such as the Oppo Reno 5G. That’s actually already available on EE, O2 and BT, but not yet on Vodafone, and not many Oppo phones are widely available in the UK. So with this Vodafone deal we’re likely to see far more land on these shores.
Ahmed Essam, Vodafone Group Chief Commercial Operations and Strategy Officer, said: “The combination of OPPO’s state-of-the-art devices and Vodafone’s leading network will give our customers greater choice with the full potential of 5G. Vodafone’s partnership with OPPO brings together their attractive product portfolio with our growing strength in 5G to our markets across Europe and beyond.”
Exact product availability and launch dates aren’t yet confirmed, but it sounds like we’ll be seeing the first Oppo phones on Vodafone very soon, and they’re worth keeping an eye out for, as even the company’s 5G flagships typically undercut similar phones from the likes of Samsung and Huawei.
Many also include innovations, such as the stylish shark-fin style pop-up camera on the Oppo Reno 5G, so Oppo’s selection could quietly be among the most exciting range of 5G phones around.
