If you’re a heavy mobile data user then an unlimited data plan is a great choice, and thanks to low prices coupled with other perks, Asda Mobile is a strong choice for your unlimited data needs.

Of course, it offers 5G too or we wouldn’t be covering it here, so you can get data with no limits and speeds with very few limits.

Asda Mobile’s unlimited data offerings are a bit more complicated than most though, as it offers three different versions of its unlimited data plan.

Below we’ve detailed Asda Mobile’s unlimited data offerings in full, and also looked at alternative networks.

Asda Mobile just offers unlimited data on a 30-day SIM Only plan, so there aren’t too many plans to choose from. That said, it offers three different versions of this plan.

One caps your speeds at 2Mbps, one at 10Mbps, and one at 150Mbps. Only the last of those truly offers 5G speeds, though they all have access to 5G spectrum, which is still advantageous as it means you’ll have coverage in areas that only have 5G.

Of course, the higher the speeds the higher the price, but Asda Mobile is a fairly affordable network even at the top end.

Like most affordable networks though it doesn’t offer much in the way of other plan types, so you can’t get a Pay Monthly contract with a phone, and nor are there home broadband, mobile broadband, or data-only plans on offer. You can Pay As You Go, but there aren’t separate bundles for that, so you just top up and pay per minute or megabyte.

Why choose Asda Mobile unlimited data

Asda Mobile stands out primarily through simple virtue of being competitively priced and not tying you in to long contracts, as its plans just last 30 days.

However, it also shares Vodafone’s coverage, which means its 5G is available in a large number of locations, with more being added all the time.

Plus, its plans come with unlimited minutes and texts, and it even includes some extras that aren’t available on all networks, like Wi-Fi Calling and 4G Calling. Inclusive roaming in most of Europe is also offered, which is no longer a standard feature of mobile networks.

Are there any fair usage restrictions?

Fair usage in the UK

Fair usage abroad

None

5GB

Asda Mobile doesn’t appear to specify any fair usage terms for the UK at the time of writing, but when roaming you’re limited to 5GB of data per month, which is quite a low limit. Then again, lots of networks don’t let you use your data abroad at all without paying extra.

Are there any speed restrictions?

Yes, Asda Mobile offers three different unlimited data plans, and they vary based on their speed restrictions. One tops out at 2Mbps, one at 10Mbps, and one at 150Mbps. If you want 5G speeds then you should choose the 150Mbps plan – even though all three are technically 5G.

Is unlimited tethering included?

Yes, Asda Mobile doesn’t apply any tethering restrictions in the UK, though when roaming your total data use can’t exceed 5GB per month.

Can unlimited data be used abroad?

No – you’re free to use your data in 37 European destinations at no extra cost, but there’s a fair usage limit of 5GB.

Is 5G data included?

Yes, 5G data comes as standard on Asda Mobile’s unlimited data plans, though as noted above there are speed restrictions to be aware of.

Are unlimited plans available with a multi-plan discount?

Asda Mobile doesn’t offer multi-plan discounts, but it’s a very affordable network to begin with, so you won’t pay a steep price for unlimited data.

Can I gift data on an unlimited plan?

Asda Mobile doesn’t allow you to gift your data, but you could always tether your phone to someone else’s device and share your data that way – assuming you’re in their proximity. If data gifting is important to you, check out EE.

Since Asda Mobile uses Vodafone’s infrastructure and coverage, that network is one obvious alternative. It has a much wider variety of plans and extras, but also tends to cost more.

You could also consider VOXI, which has the same coverage and is aimed at being affordable like Asda Mobile. Or if affordability is important but you don’t need Vodafone’s coverage, then consider the likes of SmartyiD Mobile, or Giffgaff.
