ASDA Mobile Pac Code

If you’re reading this article then you’re probably looking to change network – and more specifically either to join or leave Asda Mobile.

In either case, it’s easy to do so while keeping your old number, and below we’ve covered the simple three-step process.

The steps vary a little depending on whether you’re joining or leaving though, so the first part of this article covers leaving Asda Mobile, while the second part covers joining it. But either way, the key to keeping your number is getting a PAC (Porting Authorisation Code), so that’s step one.

Leaving Asda Mobile and transferring your number

Leaving Asda Mobile? In that case you’ll need to get a PAC code from Asda and then give it to your new network.

We’ve covered exactly how to do that below, but just note that you shouldn’t cancel your Asda Mobile account, as you could lose your number if you do that before the transfer process is complete. The act of transferring your number will close your account anyway.

Step 1 - Request an Asda Mobile PAC code

There are several ways to get a PAC code from Asda Mobile, and we’ve detailed them all below, but we recommend using ‘Text to Switch’, as this is quick, easy, and means you don’t even have to talk to anyone at the network.

Here are the methods in full:

  • Text to switch - Text the word ‘PAC’ to 65075
  • Online - Head to your online account
  • Phone - Call 2732 from your Asda Mobile phone

You should note that a PAC code is only valid for 30 days, but if yours expires before you get a chance to use it then you can simply request a new one.

Step 2 - Order a new phone or SIM

We’ve listed this as step two but actually it doesn’t matter what order you do these first two steps in. So if you ordered a new phone or SIM before getting your PAC code, that’s fine.

In any case, you typically need to order and activate a phone or SIM-Only plan on your new network before you can give them your PAC code.

So if you haven’t already, sign up for the plan you had your eye on, wait for your new phone or SIM to arrive, and then activate it.

And if you’re still choosing which plan to go for, take a look at the phone deals and SIM-Only deals on our site – some of which are often exclusive offers.

Step 3 - Give your Asda Mobile PAC code to your new network

The third and final step is to give your Asda Mobile PAC code to the new network you’ve joined.

This is just as simple as the first two steps, as you typically just fill out a short form on your new network’s site, in which you’ll also have to provide your old number and your temporary new number.

Note that sometimes you can provide these details while ordering your new phone or SIM card, but not always, and you’re always able to do so after they arrive.

You’ll find explanations of the number transfer methods for most networks in the chart below – along with links to the required form where relevant.

Joining Asda Mobile and transferring your number

If you’re looking to join Asda Mobile rather than leave then this is the section of this article for you.

As with leaving, there are just three simple steps involved in bringing your number with you when signing up with Asda Mobile, and we’ve detailed them below.

Just make sure you follow these steps rather than cancelling your old account. It will automatically be cancelled when your number is transferred, and if you do so before then you might lose your number.

Step 1 - Request a PAC code from existing network

The key to keeping your number is getting a PAC code from the network you’re leaving, and the easiest way to do that is simply to text ‘PAC’ to 65075 (from the number you want to keep).

But there are other methods too, and we’ve detailed them in the chart below.

Step 2 - Order a new Asda Mobile phone or SIM

The second step is to actually place an order with Asda Mobile – though you can also do this before you’ve got your PAC code.

If you’re unsure which plan to go for, check out the SIM deals on our site. Or if you’re after a new handset then take a look at the phone deals.

Step 3 - Give your PAC code to Asda Mobile

The final step is to give your PAC code to Asda Mobile, but first you need to wait until you’ve received and activated your new Asda Mobile phone or SIM.

Once it’s active you can transfer your number from your online Asda Mobile account. Just head to ‘My profile’ and scroll down to ‘transferring your number’. If you’d rather arrange it over the phone, you can give Asda Mobile a call on 2732.

The transfer itself will happen the next working day if you submit the transfer request before 5.00pm Monday to Thursday (other than bank holidays). If not then it will be transferred in two working days. The transfer can happen at any point between 5am and midnight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you keep your number when moving between plans on Asda Mobile?

Absolutely, and typically if you’re changing plan on the same account your number will be transferred automatically.

What if I don’t want to keep my number?

Just text ‘STAC’ to 75075 from the number you want to leave behind and you’ll be sent a STAC (Service Termination Authorisation Code) in return. Give this to your new network instead of a PAC and they’ll make sure your old account is closed and your number lost with it.

Will I be charged for a PAC code?

PAC codes are completely free, but note that if you’re ending your contract early then there may be an early cancellation fee. You can find out what if anything you’ll have to pay by texting INFO to 85075.

How long does it take for a number to transfer to a new SIM?

That varies a bit depending on the network, but generally if you submit a request before 5pm (or in some cases 5:30pm) on a working day, your number will be transferred on the next working day. Otherwise it will usually take two working days.

Can I end a contract without a PAC Code?

Yes, a PAC code is only needed if you want to keep your number. Otherwise you can simply tell your network you want to cancel your contract. Or if you’d rather not speak with the network you can request a STAC code by texting ‘STAC’ to 75075, and give that to your new network.

Can I use a PAC to switch from one Asda Mobile plan to another?

No, there’s no need for a PAC code when sticking with the same network.

Why does my phone show the wrong number?

Sometimes your phone can show the wrong number after transferring your number or getting a new one. To solve this, just head to the settings screen and manually edit the displayed number.

Can you change or cancel a number transfer?

You can usually change or cancel a number transfer – just contact your new network to make the request. However, on the day of the transfer it might be too late.

What happens if my number didn’t transfer?

There are several reasons your number transfer might not complete successfully, with the main ones being:

  • Your new SIM isn’t active: Your new SIM card needs to be activated before you can transfer a number to it.
  • You’re out of the UK: Number transfers are only completed if you’re in the UK on the day of the transfer.

If either of those were the issue then resolve the situation and request the transfer again. If not then just give your new network a call – they should be able to help.
