We know that Three will be switching on its 5G service in August, but now the network has revealed more of what to expect, including the fact that 5G will be available on all existing plans at no extra cost. That means you’ll be able to get 5G with unlimited data from just £20 per month on SIM Only.
That makes it cheaper than either EE or Vodafone – and EE doesn’t even offer unlimited data plans. You’ll be able to enjoy Three 5G at no extra cost on all existing tariffs, including Pay As You Go, and the network claims that its customers will also get the fastest 5G speeds, thanks to its 100MHz of contiguous 5G spectrum – something no other UK network currently has.
It allows for what Three describes as a ‘true’ 5G experience, and combined with unlimited data and no price rises should make for an unrestricted taste of 5G.
5G phones available already
Want to get on board? Once you have coverage all you’ll need is a 5G phone, and you don’t have to wait to get one of them, as Three is already selling the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G, with the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G going on sale soon.
Need more data? Three has also said that customers will be free to adjust their data plan as soon as 5G is available in their area, so you shouldn’t need to wait until your contract is up.
And speaking of 5G coverage, Three is aiming for 80% of its network traffic to be covered by 5G within three years. However, initially it’s just London that will have coverage, followed by 24 more locations by the end of 2019.

Three will be the third major UK network to launch a 5G service, with just O2 to follow. That network has announced plans to launch in October, though we don’t yet know what it will charge.
