Vodafone has just announced the launch of a 5G broadband service, which might surprise some of you, since Vodafone already had a 5G broadband service. But this seems to be something of a relaunch, with the brand putting more focus on it now, and increasing its availability.
You see, the new Vodafone 5G broadband is available to an extra 3.7 million homes where full fibre isn’t currently available, with the network achieving this by letting prospective customers access Three’s 5G service if Three has better coverage in their homes.
The new 5G home broadband service is also paired with a new router, replacing the old Vodafone GigaCube with a new Power Hub router — not to be confused with the Power Hub router it already sells for fibre broadband, which is a different underlying device.
So it’s all a bit confusing, but basically, Vodafone 5G home broadband is now available in more places (largely places that could already get Three 5G home broadband), and with a new indoor router — with the company also offering an outdoor hub, for homes that struggle to get an indoor connection.
Unlimited data and a choice of speeds
All plans comes with unlimited data, and you can choose between maximum speeds of 50Mbps (for £21 per month on a 24-month plan or £30 per month on a 30-day rolling plan), or 150Mbps (for £22 per month on a 24-month plan or £32 per month on a 30-day rolling plan).

Vodafone claims that its broadband offers “full-fibre-like speeds”, but it’s worth noting that many fibre services can in fact achieve far higher speeds than 150Mbps. So really this is mostly aimed at homes that don’t have the option of full fibre. Still, while you can potentially get higher speeds elsewhere, 150Mbps is probably faster than most people really need, so it’s certainly not slow.
And it’s nice to see 5G home broadband’s availability continue to expand, with Vodafone claiming that its 5G broadband service is now available to over 26 million homes, which is apparently more than any other UK provider.
