Lyca Mobile offers a range of plans and some of these include unlimited data. That sort of plan is well worth considering if you use your phone a lot, especially in the days of 5G, as it will help you get more out of these lightning-fast speeds.

Of course, Lyca Mobile isn’t alone in offering unlimited data plans with 5G, but there are reasons you might want to choose it over other networks, especially if you’re often calling abroad, as the network includes free international minutes with many of its plans.

There are other things to know about Lyca Mobile as well though, and below we’ve covered all the key points that are relevant to its unlimited data plans.

Lyca Mobile only offers unlimited 5G data with SIM-only plans, so if you want a smartphone on a Pay Monthly contract you’ll need to look elsewhere. But its unlimited data SIM plans just last 30 days, so you don’t have to commit to a long-term contract.

The network does offer Pay As You Go, but not with unlimited data bundles, and there’s no mobile broadbandhome broadband, or data-only service on Lyca Mobile.

Why choose Lyca Mobile unlimited data

Lyca Mobile is a network with an international focus, which in practice mostly means a lot of its plans come with international minutes.

That includes its unlimited data plans, so you can call dozens of destinations at no extra cost. In fact, at the time of writing you can get a plan with both unlimited data and unlimited international minutes (to 41 locations).

Beyond that, as noted above the network’s 5G SIM Only plans are just 30 days long, so you have the flexibility to be able to change or cancel your plan at almost any time.

Lyca Mobile also has the same coverage as O2, so you’ll get 5G (as well as 4G and 3G) in all the same places as O2. Its coverage will also improve when O2’s does.

Are there any fair usage restrictions?

Fair usage in the UK

Fair usage abroad

None

16.5GB per month

Lyca Mobile doesn’t advertise any fair usage restrictions in the UK – at least not for its truly unlimited plan. There is also a cheaper plan advertised as having ‘endless data’, and this one will slow your data down to 384kbps after you use 150GB in any given month.

Lyca Mobile also has fair usage limits when roaming. These vary from plan to plan and have been known to change, but at the time of writing its truly unlimited plan has a 16.5GB data limit when roaming.

Are there any speed restrictions?

As noted above, if you take out Lyca Mobile’s ‘endless data’ plan then your speeds will be slowed to 384kbps once you use 150GB in any given month, but the plan labelled as ‘unlimited’ has no speed restrictions.

Is unlimited tethering included?

Yes, at the time of writing you can tether as much as you want with an unlimited data plan on Lyca Mobile.

Can unlimited data be used abroad?

No, Lyca Mobile has a fair usage limit that stands at 16.5GB per month when roaming at the time of writing. However, this has been known to change, so it’s worth checking directly with the network. It also varies from plan to plan – that 16.5GB limit is for the ‘UK Plan Unlimited Plus’, but if you have ‘Go Endless Plus’ then there’s a lower 14GB roaming cap.

Is 5G data included?

Yes, 5G comes as standard on all of Lyca Mobile’s plans, including its unlimited data plans.

Are unlimited plans available with a multi-plan discount?

No, Lyca Mobile doesn’t offer multi-plan discounts, but it’s a competitively priced network anyway – especially if you plan to call abroad a lot.

Can I gift data on an unlimited plan?

No, the only network that typically allows this is EE. However, you could always tether your device to someone else’s and share your data with them that way. There are also some Lyca Mobile plans that do allow a small amount of data to be shared, but not its unlimited data ones.

Lyca Mobile uses O2’s network for coverage, so if you want coverage in the same places as Lyca Mobile, then choosing O2 itself or another operator that shares its coverage is the way to go. Alternatives with O2 coverage and plans with unlimited 5G data include Tesco Mobile and Giffgaff.

If on the other hand you’re interested in free international calls, consider Lebara.
