Above and below shows the Galaxy Z Flip.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 range arguably aren’t Samsung’s most exciting phones of the year so far. Rather, the foldable Samsung Galaxy Z Flip takes that prize, and while at the moment there’s no 5G version, there soon probably will be.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G will reportedly land in around August or September, potentially launching at the same time as the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 range and Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, all of which will also probably come in 5G flavours, so that could be a big month for 5G phones.
As well as adding 5G, Samsung is said to be working on two new shades for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, with buyers set to be able to opt for Copper Brown or Dark Grey shades in addition to the current selection of colours – though it’s possible that not all colours will be available in all regions.
All of this information comes from industry sources speaking to m-i.kr, so none of this is confirmed, but it’s likely accurate, as it would make sense for Samsung to launch a 5G version of the phone, especially as the 4G version has apparently sold better than anticipated.
A bit different but mostly the same
The sources claim that the 5G Samsung Galaxy Z Flip will additionally have a slight size change of less than 0.1mm – though it’s not clear whether it will be that much bigger or smaller than the 4G Galaxy Z Flip.
The rest of the design, specs and features are likely to remain the same, and that’s no bad thing, because as noted the Galaxy Z Flip is already an exciting phone. It’s Samsung’s second foldable (following the Samsung Galaxy Fold), and opts for a more smartphone-sized 6.7-inch screen, which can be folded down to make the phone super compact.
The handset also has a 1.1-inch cover display for when the main screen in folded, and high-end specs, including a Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage.
At £1,300 it also has a lower price than Samsung’s previous foldable, which probably helped ensure its popularity. It’s not yet clear whether the 5G model will cost more, but it’s still likely to be the cheapest 5G foldable you can buy.
